What is Easter?

Easter is twelve men who studied under Jesus
Passover was changed into something to remind us
The betrayer left the meal while it was still night
Eleven men would later leave before it was daylight
Sleep overtook these men in the Garden of Gethsemane
Jesus agonized for hours before He died for you and me
Eleven were now shocked when they took Jesus away
The betrayer’s soul soon hung from a tree that awful day
The trials were all illegal judgement was prejudiced
Pilate did his best but still found Him innocent
Barabbas was set free to give Jesus his cross
The love of God took our place to pay our final cost

Easter is the blood that fell onto the dirty ground
Each drop He bled for us as we were all hell bound
When the sun was high night overtook the land
Clear evidence God cannot abide with evil sin
The temple curtain tore in two from the top down
Entrance now to Holy God was bought with thorny crown
The one whom Jesus loved was made a substitute
Forgiveness was requested for the destitute
I Am thirsted so they raised a sponge up to Him
“Paid in full” He said to them then He bowed His head
A spear brought water mixed with blood
A borrowed grave was now His tomb

Easter is a Sabbath filled with doubts, grief and regrets
How could this be the end of a promised kingdom yet
They saw Him die His body wrapped quickly before night
Their rabbi taken in His prime simply wasn’t right
Why was God so silent now where was He in this
The angels could have stepped in with a mere request
It must have felt so final to men destined to rule
Unspoken questions went unasked and unanswered too
Their longest day gave way to night as darkness filled their souls
Tomorrow would come again but where would they now go
They dare not dream for fear the night would never go away
The sun did dawn eventually far brighter than today

Easter is a pounding that came on the door out
“He is not there, they’ve taken Him” came the woman’s shout
Two ran to see if this was true how could this even be
The way the grave clothes lay gave them hope to believe
He came to them as they waited in the dark locked room
Joy must have overtaken men once overruled by gloom
Jesus was now different yet somehow still the same
His wounded body now did breathe after the cold grave
He gave them orders to carry out into all the earth
Everyone must know of the new spiritual birth
Let’s do our best to love the lost as He wants us to do
And build God’s kingdom yet to come so He can rightly rule

I'm a truck driver turned writer. My writing drives people to Jesus. I love sunsets/sunrises, dark chocolate, coffee, cats and dogs (as long as their owners pick up after them) and solitude. My relationship with God through Jesus Christ is most important to me, not a religion. This writing gig is all God's idea. I only wish to bring more attention to Jesus with it.
