The Least of These

The last three weekends have been filled with helping the least of the members of our society…and I love it.

The first Saturday of August I helped feed homeless folks in south Dallas.

The next Saturday I traveled to a maximum security prison to speak to prisoners.

This past Saturday I helped the homeless again. This time it was handing out clothes.

Add to that the last bunch of Sundays I’ve been watching toddlers during the second service over the summer and my love tank has been quite full these days.

I’ve been hugged so many times this month I lost count. For the record, if you look at the color of skin of those hugging me I’m pretty sure I’m not racist. Just sayin’.

Nobody is forcing me to do these things for these people. Jesus asked me to but He isn’t forcing me into it.

I’ll get some sort of reward for this in heaven some day, but I’m getting enough satisfaction here and now that I feel rewarded enough already.

One of the homeless men is also blind. He had to trust me to match his wardrobe of pants and shirts. We even found him a matching suit for him to wear to church. He gave me one of the biggest hugs this whole month.

Some of the kids stay close to me so their love tanks will refill. Those hugs are sweet enough to fill my inner grandpa love tank.

There are also a couple of men in Uganda who hug me online because of the help I help them get.

To be totally honest with you I’m not a very good businessman. I could have used these weekends plugging in some things that would have gotten my website up to speed to bring in some clients.

No, the cost to those I’ve helped would have been to great a price for me to pay. I made the best decisions this summer.

Jesus told me to build His kingdom over mine. So that’s what I plan on doing.

There will be time to get the business running. Then I’ll be able to help more financially, too.

Until then I guess I’ll keep getting paid in hugs.

I like to think of them as hugs from Jesus.

I’ll see you later. Wade

I'm a truck driver turned writer. My writing drives people to Jesus. I love sunsets/sunrises, dark chocolate, coffee, cats and dogs (as long as their owners pick up after them) and solitude. My relationship with God through Jesus Christ is most important to me, not a religion. This writing gig is all God's idea. I only wish to bring more attention to Jesus with it.
