Waiters Serve

God’s waiting room is quite crowded. At least that’s my observation. Prayers await an answer…at least we hope the answer isn’t no.

Cold hearts are still ice cubes.

Health concerns are still bleak.

Finances are still too tight.

Hunger and poverty still occupy too much of the earth.

It feels like our prayers have bounced off the ceiling instead of reaching God’s ear.

A few observations from a fella whose parents named him Wade because that’s the closest they could come to wait since my mom carried me in her womb for ten months.

Sometimes no is God’s answer and we must move on.

Occasionally God wants us to get involved to be part of the answer we’re seeking.

Often times God is developing us to be ready before He gives us the go ahead for our desire.

But, still, we wait…and wait…

So, what’s a body to do while waiting?

As I recently saw online somewhere: When you’re waiting do what waiters do…they serve.

That’s what I’ve been doing since my divorce, which apparently has a no answer attached to it.

In June 2013 I went to Moore, Oklahoma to help with tornado cleanup after an F-5 tornado demolished much of that city.

I’ve been volunteering during the summer months watching toddlers so young parents can enjoy church services unobstructed by crying kids.

Kairos Prison Ministry has been a huge part of my life the past couple of years.

This past Saturday I went to south Dallas and helped hand out clothes to homeless folks who live there.

All while holding down two jobs where I’m barely staying afloat financially because I choose to help those in need in different parts of the world.

Why do I say all this? It isn’t to toot my own horn. I’m not buying points to gain a better place in heaven.

I was reminded of this while I heard the sermon this past Sunday. I’m working out my salvation.

No, I didn’t say I’m working FOR my salvation. Jesus took care of all that on the cross.

Working out ones salvation is a concept too few folks understand.

The quickest and best explanation for this is that I’m becoming more like Jesus every day of my life.

Matthew 25:35-36 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

That’s what servers do while they’re waiting…waiters serve.

Time is going to march on while you’re waiting no matter what you do with that time.

Make the most of it my friends.

I’ll see you later. Wade

I'm a truck driver turned writer. My writing drives people to Jesus. I love sunsets/sunrises, dark chocolate, coffee, cats and dogs (as long as their owners pick up after them) and solitude. My relationship with God through Jesus Christ is most important to me, not a religion. This writing gig is all God's idea. I only wish to bring more attention to Jesus with it.
