I’m a Truck Driver

Kairos at Beto #60 is in the books. I have one word to describe it. WOW!

I wish I was allowed to tell y’all everything that occurred but that would take three and a half days.

As far as the song goes it didn’t get sung. I got Chaplain White’s blessing on it. He said he trusts me with the lyrics so that hurdle was cleared.

I just never brought it to the band during my time in prison this time.

At first I was upset with myself for not getting up the guts to present it. Then I thought of a great way to bring it to them that wouldn’t sound like I was pushing my agenda on them.

It was halfway through Saturday when I decided the best way to bring it to the band is just to ask their opinion about the lyrics. If they decide it’s good they’ll ask me to sing it to them, then it could take off from there if it’s supposed to.

The problem is that by Saturday the band doesn’t play much more during the weekend and I got quite busy at that point. So, it didn’t happen at all.

But then God placed on my heart that it’s okay because my heart was in the wrong place at this time for this song to come out now.

Yeah, it’s a bit frustrating because it means more waiting, but I know it needs to happen in God’s timing to be successful.

But God did use me even though I wasn’t in as much contact with the inmates this go around.

My talk went well, even though my throat got dry and I struggled through the first parts. But as I persevered my voice cleared up and the words flowed better.

I felt confident I had good content when I saw Pastor Gardener’s head nodding in agreement throughout the talk. His talk followed mine so it was a good sign.

Every time I go down there I tell the guys I’m primarily a truck driver. It never fails that at least one of the inmates comes up to me asking questions about the vocation.

Well, this time I promised to pick up a CDL study book and send it to one of the guys so he can study for the test after he gets out.

I often wondered why God directed me into truck driving out of Bible college over 30 years ago. I guess I’m discovering why now.

The Good Book is right when it says God’s ways are higher than my ways.

It’s interesting how things work in a prison. Chaplain White said I couldn’t carry a study manual into the prison to give it to this guy but it’s completely legal to send to him through the mail.

I guess they can check it to see if a file will drop out before they send it along.

The spiritual warfare grew to atmospheric proportions this time when a heavy thunderstorm blew through Saturday evening.

The timing was interesting. As we came out of the prison massive black clouds filled the western sky. We drove east into Palestine for a team meeting. There was only light rain falling in town.

We heard the thunder but finished our meeting between crashes. Someone checked their weather app after the meeting. A severe section of the storm blew over us during that time.

Some low lying streets were flooded but we all got back to our motel safely for the night. The next morning we had to detour to the prison because of blocked roads, probably from downed trees.

The weather was much calmer Sunday. You wouldn’t know from the 4 power outages we endured during the day. The first one was right in the middle of Pastor Gardener’s talk. He simply set the microphone down, raised his volume and never skipped a beat.

I can’t go into specifics but will share that there were some dramatic conversions during our weekend…and there’s one less Druid in Beto Prison now.

Yeah, like I said at the beginning. WOW!

I’ll see you later. Wade

I'm a truck driver turned writer. My writing drives people to Jesus. I love sunsets/sunrises, dark chocolate, coffee, cats and dogs (as long as their owners pick up after them) and solitude. My relationship with God through Jesus Christ is most important to me, not a religion. This writing gig is all God's idea. I only wish to bring more attention to Jesus with it.
