I’m here to tell y’all that spiritual warfare is real. I feel it before every Kairos Prison Ministry weekend I’ve been on so far.
Well, in another week and a half, May 15-19, 2019, we go back to the George Beto Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice bringing Jesus’ transforming message to the most hardened of criminals.
Last week was almost scary to the opposite extreme. It was so smooth I almost didn’t know what to do about it.
I had Monday off, a rarity for me these days. I got some important things done, like sending some books to my niece. I’ve been so busy I haven’t been able to get to a post office while they’re open.
I spent Tuesday delivering mattresses for eight and a half hours. I didn’t hit any bad weather until I finished my last delivery. Then it took me and hour and a half to travel about fifteen miles to finish my day.
Rather than drive the thirty miles each way home just to drive back on Wednesday I stayed in the truck Tuesday night.
I took my computer with me so I could type my talk out that I have to give during the Kairos weekend. As I was putting the finishing touches on it I got notified that my load was ready to hook to, so I did.
The only glitch on Wednesday was the trailer jack stand was frozen stuck with rust. I could not get the handle to budge to raise the jack legs up so I could drive off safely.
I found a cement block fragment that I used as a hammer. It helped somewhat but not enough to get the job done. My dispatcher came out and beat on it from under the trailer. That’s when I finally found success and was able to leave.
I stopped for fuel on my drive out to the first scheduled delivery on Thursday. I arrived at the stop just in time to shut the electronic logging device off to restart it after my ten hour mandatory break before I could legally drive on Thursday.
Thursday was going to prove to be my make or break day for the week. If it all went well I’d make it back in time on Friday to attend the final Kairos team meeting on Saturday.
That’s when the unexpected occurred. Somebody showed up fifteen minutes early for that first delivery. The second stop had someone waiting for me twenty minutes before they usually open. The only rain I saw was while I drove to my third stop.
The rest of the day went so smoothly I pulled up to my eighth stop for the day just ahead of the moving company boxtruck that hauled away a California King mattress I delivered there. I traveled almost four hundred miles between those eight stops.
That was as best case as a fella could ask for.
The last stop on Friday was equally as smooth. So was the trip back to the metroplex. Even the drive around Dallas ran quite well for the time of day I came back in.
It made me wonder what I did right and how I could make sure I duplicate it every week.
Instead, I know it’s back to reality for the next week and a half. The closer I get to the Kairos weekend the worse things will get. This is just the calm before the storm.
This is where I come asking for prayer support. Without that nothing in my life will make sense.
The talk I give is scheduled for Sunday morning about nine o’clock Texas time. Pray for anyone who hasn’t accepted Jesus as his Savior yet to do so before the end of the day.
I still have 36 letters to write the inmates. That’s better than the previous Kairos and doable, but I need to set aside the time to get it done.
The Apainter Paul has a huge exterior job he expects to last possibly the next two months. Rain will delay that timetable as will my need to keep driving for health insurance coverage.
When I get back from the Kairos weekend I could get an influx of mobile app requests because of a state convention occurring at the same time as the Kairos. That could also be huge. More on that later.
Other things are probably in motion in other areas of my life that I know nothing about, but God does. I need wisdom and strength to get everything done that needs to get done…as well as a few things to fall into place soon.
Whew! I got tired just typing all that out. Hence the prayer requests.
Thank you for lifting me up. Y’all are the best.
I’ll see you later. Wade
