I Took a Half Step Backwards This Week

2018 has been giving me quite a ride so far. Stranded in Corpus Christi a full day. More winter weather in one day than in the past three years. This week I had to go back to my former temp agency to fill an emergency run for a client that likes me too well.

I told Dario he needed to fill out whatever needed to be filled out for the new temp agency I switched to when I switched. He procrastinated.

On Monday one of his drivers had to go to deep south Texas for a family emergency.

In order to get his three day run completed in three days we needed to do a Texas backstep instead of the two-step.

Fortunately I left the old temp agency in good standing so they were agreeable to the arrangement.

I hope the new agreement is settled with my new temp agency because I’m pretty sure they’re better at negotiating in the driver’s favor when it comes to pay rates. At least that’s what it sounded like when they called and talked to me about what was going on.

I have a feeling the old temp agency is struggling. That’s why I jumped ship when I did.

I found out the window company I drove for is getting up to speed with the new electronic log requirements. That’s something a fella driving for a temp agency is concerned about. At least I am.

Each company needs to have it’s drivers using electronic logging devices to keep track of their hours of service.

That means a driver has to take a 30 minute break during the eight hour period after he begins work even if it means he can’t make it to all of his stops before they close. The rule makes sense on paper, but when it hits the streets something unpleasant hits the fan.

A guy driving through a temp agency isn’t on the company’s payroll so he ain’t on their electronic logging devices neither. Paper logs are still barely legal now, but aren’t supposed to be for long.

I’m praying I can be out of this career before I get hauled off to jail or given a hefty fine for violating a stinking law.

I keep wondering how much of a driver shortage there will have to be before they loosen up on the laws they keep making. That’s why I’m praying for a career change.

If you’re signed up for my newsletter I’ll be sending out some exciting news regarding my writing on Feb first. It won’t mean I can quit this driving nonsense, but it’s a step in the right direction, not half backwards.

If you need to use a new email address just sign up with that one all over again if you want to keep up with the latest news that isn’t necessarily fit to print about what’s going on with little old me.

My business venture is getting a boost as well…oh no, y’all need to get my newsletter for that info, too.

Other than that things are progressing at the usual snail’s pace in my life.

I’m not homeless yet, but I’m teetering on the brink per usual.

If I weren’t so tired I probably would have squeezed more humor into this post. I guess the funny juice is to tuckered too.

I often wish Pastor Springstead wasn’t so effective at pointing out Colossians 3:23 as he did back in the day I was young. He said it means that when my employer tells me to do something it’s as if Jesus Christ Himself told me to do it.

I don’t think they had fans spewing matter everywhere back in Jesus’ day, but I’ll keep doing my best to please Him anyway.

I’ll see you later.   Wade

I'm a truck driver turned writer. My writing drives people to Jesus. I love sunsets/sunrises, dark chocolate, coffee, cats and dogs (as long as their owners pick up after them) and solitude. My relationship with God through Jesus Christ is most important to me, not a religion. This writing gig is all God's idea. I only wish to bring more attention to Jesus with it.
